Proposal for

NASDA Website Redesign

NASDA Goals

Redesign Website to Align With New Strategic Plan

NASDA aims to expand the reach of its influence and highlight its work by transforming the website into an effective communication hub for its marketing strategies.

Your target audience contains a range of different people. The website and content must be designed to help these different audiences reach their unique goals.

This proposal highlights Bright Orange Thread’s unique approach to helping NASDA achieve their goals.

Recommended Process for NASDA Site Redesign

Watch our walk through of the website redesign process. Full descriptions for each phase are included below.

Phase I: Discovery, IA, Design

The goals of this phase are to:
  • Develop a deep understanding of you and the project goals
  • Define Information Architecture & Design
  • Craft deliverables and fees for Phase II of the project to meet those goals

Defining who you’re targeting and what you want them to do next are key to maximizing your budget in Phase II.

Phase I is dedicated to answering these questions.

Discovery

A solid foundation is key to building a strong website. Bright Orange Thread will seek to understand your target audiences, your strategic plan, and how new and existing content work together to communicate effectively.

Content Audit

Collate and prioritize content that aligns your new strategic plan with each of your target audiences. Bright Orange Thread will comb through existing NASDA site content, NASS content, and other content assets to organize content for the new website.

SEO Audit

Search engines are constantly updating their algorithms. So that search engines send more people your way: your web pages, your keywords, and on-site factors must all be implemented in the right way. Our audit reviews your rankings, competitor rankings, and identifies what is working and areas for improvement so search engines put the spotlight on you.

Membership Task Analysis Grid

Help members get things done in your portal. Careful planning via documentation in a task analysis grid will help create an effortless user experience in the membership portal and beyond.

Careful planning will help users reach their goals.

Information Architecture

Different audiences have different goals to reach on your website. By asking “who is this content for?” and “what do we want them to do next?”, Bright Orange Thread will help develop a structure that meets the needs of each type of website visitor.

Sitemap

A sitemap is an effective method for planning and communicating ideas about a website’s navigational structure. Bright Orange Thread will work with you to create a sitemap that shows how content on the website will be organized. Appropriate labels for the pages will also be defined. Two rounds of revisions are included.

10 Wireframes

Define the content hierarchy and the functionality of key pages. To keep the focus on site structure, wireframes are devoid of color, font choices, logos or any real design elements. Two rounds of revisions are included.

Design

Research shows you have 5 seconds or less to make a good first impression. Compelling design will modernize your website and support your brand for years to come.

Mood Board

Explore the possibilities for your website design. A mood board exercise will explore colors, typography, and imagery that take your existing brand into the modern age. Two rounds of revisions are included.

Set the tone for the full site design through mood board exploration.

Page Designs

Bright Orange Thread will develop a compelling look and feel that fits your brand. The work will be based on the finalized moodboard and wireframes. For this project, the design will be implemented for 5 pages on the website and for customized images. Two rounds of revisions are included.

Summary

Empowered by an enriched understanding of your design, content, SEO, and development needs, we will provide a more accurate estimate for Phase II, which includes the CMS configuration and development, as well as content migration.

Phase II

Development

Fast websites optimized for any device are key to creating a good user experience. Flexible content management systems are essential for small teams to make impactful changes to the site.

Implement Craft CMS

Craft enables the creation of a simple, flexible, and intuitive publishing experience that your content managers will value. Client will be able to build a variety of web pages without needing the discipline to adhere to brand standards or using code.

Content Migration

All the content from your current site will be migrated to the new site (based on the sitemap of course). The migration includes light editing of existing content to fit the page template options available in the theme.

Speed Optimization

Fast-loading web pages create a great user experience. Speed is so valuable that Google factors it into its algorithm.

Membership Portal

Empower members to engage with NASDA through a password protected membership portal.

Site Testing

Bright Orange Thread will test key pages on the site across desktop, mobile, and tablet throughout the development process. Our goal for testing is to ensure content we develop is optimized and usable across common platforms. While our testing will be thorough, we will rely on Client testing to ensure our testing of the site is more comprehensive.

301 Redirects

For SEO value and user experience, we want to avoid broken links on the site. Bright Orange Thread will work with the client to map 301 redirects for existing pages from the old site to the new site.

Craft Training

It’s critical for you to know how to make updates and build pages on the site. We will conduct one 1-2 hour training session to train the team on the new CMS.

Site Launch

The big day.

We launch your site so you can finally share with the board, stakeholders, and the public!

Post-Launch Triple Play

Once the site is launched, the work isn’t always over. We will meet with you 30, 60, and 90 days after launch to ensure the site is helping you meet your goals.

About Bright Orange Thread

We create websites, web content, and online marketing campaigns that click with your prospects.

Clients have told us we care about their prospects more than them. We confess, it’s true.

We know when we create content that “clicks” with the user, the faster they will click, sign up, or call.

A Thread Through Time

  • 1998 - Launched as a design studio under the moniker FranBach Creative (don’t worry, we rename it soon!). Designed logos, brands, and websites for small local businesses.
  • 2006-2008 - Paying attention to what the market was telling us, we fully embraced web design as our core service area. We renamed the company Bright Orange Thread, thanks to a group of University of Delaware students.
  • 2013-2017 - Pivoted to a marketing and communications agency to align with our core belief that the web has changed how people consume information online. We shifted to developing educational content and materials that help website visitors answer their questions and accomplish their goals as they move closer to engaging directly.

Lessons Learned Along the Way

We’re lifelong learners. And we like to share what we know with our clients.

Here are a few lessons we picked up we think will enrich your understanding of our approach.

Solid Content for the Everchanging Google Algorithms

Helpful content that answers your audience's questions will help you withstand Google's algorithm changes and drive more traffic to your site.

Quality content builds trust with users and helps you grow on Google.

Two questions can help you define goals for every web page

  • Who is this page for?
  • What do we want them to do next?

Answering these two questions can help you define goals for your site.
