It’s Time to Level Up
You spawn into the game in a field of waving wheat.
The only thing to your name is a flimsy wooden sword that can’t even cut a path through the field.
You aren’t anywhere close to the fight with the final boss.
But that’s the point. Nobody starts on the final level.
If you want to trade that wooden sword for the golden longsword of knowledge and experience, you have to level up your learning.
Level Up Your Tasks
Think of each new task you face as a level that you can beat and possibly even master.
When your career first started, you were holding the wooden sword.
You had to hack your way through the field, climb the levels, and gain knowledge from those around you.
You didn’t stay in your comfort zone of the field forever, because there was nothing left to learn there.
Now, you’ve climbed the ranks and fortified your sword with knowledge.
You’re level 89 at creating automations for difficult processes and level 70 at creating growth reports. Each thing you learned helped you climb higher.
Don’t Get Stuck in Your Zone
Our comfort zone feels like the best place to stay for a reason.
But it holds us back from reaching the next level.
You can’t earn more XP in a level you’ve already beaten.
To keep growing, you have to venture to the next step of information.
If you’ve gotten comfortable writing emails, take the leap into writing blogs.
If you know how to automate your email list full of names, try furthering the idea with segmentation.
You might fail at first, but the new skills you learn will make that failure worth it.
Focus Your Energy on the Right Things
Sometimes, even after we try and try, we still can’t get something right.
You’ve climbed as far as you can, and it seems your ladder is ending at level 42.
That’s natural.
We can’t be experts on everything; after all, the expression is, “jack of all trades, master of none.”
If you focus on the things you know you can continue to grow in, you’ll be the level 90 that can help someone else when they’ve reached the end of their ladder in your area of expertise.
Likewise, they’ll be able to focus on their skills and help you when you need it.
Choose Your Next Objective
If the game feels easy, you’re likely going the wrong way or not moving at all.
If you’re running into obstacles and feeling a little out of your depth, you’re headed toward the goal.
Learning isn’t about being the best at everything or leveling up as fast as you can.
It’s a process that everyone can work on every day.
Choose your next task to level up on, and see how far it can take you.
