Name Your Baby

Every week, we’re answering common questions from CEOs about marketing. Here’s this week’s question…

“Why can’t I turn marketing over to someone else?”

Because you don’t let a nurse name your baby.

You, as the CEO, are the parent of your marketing.

If we make that a little less metaphorical, you’re the leader of your marketing; you give your marketing its identity, even if you’re not the one writing emails and blogs.

You have to identify what it is that makes your company truly unique.

You have to put who your Ideal Clients are onto paper—and not just their revenue or budget.

You have to establish the goals of marketing.

Without those vital decisions, your marketing has no foundation, no teeth, and no direction.

Handing it over to your marketing team without making those decisions sets them up to fail.

So…

You don’t let a nurse name your baby.

Own your marketing.

Start by getting a clear picture of your efforts.
