Room Temperature Marketing Is the Default

The conference room was quiet in a complacent way.

Heads nodded. Someone said, “Looks good.”

Another added, “Yeah, I don’t see any issues.”

No one felt like they needed to give any other feedback.

The homepage wasn’t bad; it just didn’t do anything.

That’s room temperature marketing.

It’s like a cup of coffee left on the counter—drinkable, but a bit cold, and completely uninviting.

That pull towards the blandness is driven by AI.

When left alone, AI rounds off the punchy language that sticks in your reader’s mind. The specificity that makes your audience feel seen is replaced with broad statements.

AI makes you blend in with the crowd.

Large language models synthesize everything. Every headline, homepage, and “best practice” ever written. Without firm direction, all that AI will do is dull your marketing.

And dull marketing doesn’t stand out.

When you don’t stand out, prospects can’t tell why you’re different. Your value becomes invisible, and the only thing left to compete on is price.

That’s a race to the bottom.

We see this “good enough” constantly, even in our own drafts.

At Bright Orange Thread, we use AI every day. And then we fight it.

Daily critiques, rewritten subject lines, homepages pulled apart because they sound like they could belong to anyone.

What we do is step in and direct where our client’s message lands.

We empathize with the buyer’s needs.

AI will default to the middle—the place with the widest, weakest appeal.

We resist that pull with clarity about who we’re actually for.

That clarity comes from personas—they’re our backbone.

We build them, know them like real people, and yes, we even name them.

This depth is what powers an Ideal Client Profile.

AI cannot truly provide that level of understanding of your ideal client’s pressures, incentives, fears, and language.

We provide that understanding, so AI can fill in the gaps with intention, not averages.

If you’re ready to push AI beyond “good enough,” learn how to build an Ideal Client Profile that gives it clear direction.
