50 is The Magic Number of Blog Posts For Your Company

Your customers are already looking for you—and your competition—online. The question is: are you showing up in the top 10 search results?

Creating relevant, helpful content is the best way for your site to show up high in search results. Here’s why:

  • People are always looking for expertise. Quite often, they need your expertise. AND they try to find it via search engines.
  • Search engines have proven themselves over and over again at giving people the best answer.

We want you to use the power of blogging so that you can be the person providing the useful information, that you can help increase your search ranking, drive more prospects to your site, and help you win more business.

Blogging Drives Traffic & Leads

Blogging is a long-term (a year or so) tactic to increase the number of leads on your pipeline by sharing your industry expertise in blog posts on a regular basis.

In the case of Bright Orange Thread’s client, Sperr’s, a campaign of 52 blog posts increased organic site traffic by over 3,000%.

Blogging Helps People Find Your Business Online

Blogging is counterintuitive. It’s giving away your expertise for free and expecting to make money. It’s writing a lot of words when people these days seem to prefer short captions.

Here’s why it works.

Blogging establishes your company as an expert in the field

Prospects are looking for a company that knows what they’re doing. Establish yours as a trusted authority by answering your prospects’ most pressing questions in your 50 blog posts. People read when it’s valuable expertise.

Blogging lets you dominate the search results

Search engines like Google use complex algorithms to connect searchers with relevant results. When you’re answering searcher questions—and doing it well—Google picks up on this and ranks you higher.

Blogging lets you speak directly to different audiences

Writing 50 blogs allows you to address the distinct needs of all your different audiences. By writing targeted blog posts, you communicate to the reader that you understand their issue and you’re here to help.

Hit 50+ Blog Posts for Big Results

Research shows blogging is a heavy-hitter when it comes to generating website traffic and leads. To really capitalize on this tactic, you need to post at least 50 blog posts.

50 Blog Posts or Bust

In one study, HubSpot compared the total number of blog articles published by a company against its number of median leads per month. As you can see in the chart below, once a company has published over 35 articles, their leads increased by 30%. Once they published 52 posts, their leads went up by 77%!

Double the Traffic, 130 New Leads

Blogging has been a successful tactic to increase website traffic and leads for many of our clients. Take our client, Kauffman Gas. While Kauffman Gas already had a handful of published posts, we accelerated their blogging efforts to reach 50 posts faster. Within 12 months, they had over 50 blog posts—and their website traffic more than doubled. Thanks to their new blogging strategy, they gained 130 new clients in 2 years.

50 Blog Posts: How to Do It the Right Way

There’s a right way to do a 50 Blog Post Campaign—and a wrong way.

If your 50 blog posts are poorly written or do not offer any useful information (read: they’re full of fluff and not much else), readers will quickly leave the page and look elsewhere for information.

In short: if the content you’re posting stinks, it won’t get you anywhere.

Understand your audience

The first step in writing 50 blog posts will be to understand your target audience. It’s important to understand who they are, what they need, and what they want to know.

You are likely to have multiple audiences that want and need different things based on:

  • Different geographical areas or markets
  • Residential vs. Commercial needs
  • Their role as “decision-maker” vs. “influencer”

Focus on your audience’s questions

A good place to start when determining an audience’s most pressing questions is to ask your sales or office staff. What questions do they hear over and over again? Answering these will be your first 10 blog posts.

Create content that answers those questions

For your most common questions, you already have all the answers ready—and that’s half the battle. Now it’s just a matter of getting them written down in a way your readers will understand.

Keep reading to learn what elements make a well-written blog post that is bound to bring in business.

Make sure it’s well-written

Each of your 50 posts needs to be written with clear, concise writing. It’s best to avoid industry-specific jargon and stick to language your audience will understand.

You are the expert but people won’t see you as one if you befuddle them with jargon. Help them understand your expertise, and you will be seen as an expert. Confuse them, and you’ll be ignored.

Be sure to present the information in a format that is easy to read by “chunkifying” to break up text-heavy pages into smaller chunks.

Tip: End each blog post with a call-to-action. Now that you answered their question, show the reader the next logical step. Give them an opportunity to convert. Let them know about the next step, like requesting a quote for your service or ordering your product.

Writing Isn't for Everyone

While we are definitely biased, it’s also true that not everyone can write well (or has the desire to try). If you don't trust your writing skills, consider hiring a professional writer with blogging experience to help you.

Post Consistently

As with many endeavors, consistency is key. Just as you would not exercise once and immediately be in the best shape of your life, you should not expect posting blog articles to have an immediate impact on your bottom line.

Posting new articles regularly helps your site to appear in search results, as search engines favor websites that have a lot of relevant content as well as new and updated pages.

To help your company stay on track, you will want to create both a Content Plan and an Editorial Calendar to stay consistent. Plan on posting at least 4 - 6 times per month.

Improve blog conversion

Within 3-6 months, you’ll have sufficient data on how your blog content is affecting your business goals and how to improve in future blogging campaigns.

You will be able to collect data about which posts are doing the best job converting visitors to leads. From there you can try different techniques to see what will work best with your target audience. Perform regular A/B testing and make updates to your blog posts as needed.
